Privacy policy re-written, which is somewhat scary given Singapore has made trackers just-about-mandatory
Apple and Google worked together on a contact tracing functionality to serve in the battle against the COVID-19 virus. This feature is available on both iOS and Android devices, allowing certain apps, usually made by governments, to track and log every person each user has interacted with.
TraceTogether, the Singapore government’s app, will share the tracking data with the local police in case of criminal investigations. Even worse, both witnesses’ and suspects’ data will be extracted, which goes against the app’s privacy policy that clearly states that the information collected will be used exclusively to combat the COVID-19 spread: “Your data will only be used for COVID-19 contact tracing. Any data shared with MOH will only be used solely for contact tracing of persons possibly exposed to COVID-19.”
This is a bad precedent for people’s privacy.
