Microsoft Teams Users Under Attack in ‘FakeUpdates’ Malware Campaign

by | November 13, 2020 | Cybersecurity News

Microsoft is warning its customers about the dangerous, so-called “FakeUpdates” campaigns.

Attackers are using ads for fake Microsoft Teams updates to install backdoors, to infect companies’ networks with malware. The technique is called “Cobalt Strike” and is used to spread all sorts of malware, especially ransomware.

This campaign is targeting various types of companies, but is focused on the K-12 education sector, where schools are currently dependent on apps like Microsoft Teams for online courses, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
