Happy New Year: Jan 1, 2021 security certificate expiration causes havoc for some Check Point VPN users

It was not exactly the y2k bug, but certainly not far from it.

In the beginning, it seemed to be just another warning message that apps show every now and then. But this time, it was serious: Check Point VPN used an outdated certificate in some older versions of the software. Even though they notified users that an updated was needed, since August 2019, there were some who ignored it and got a nasty surprise at the beginning of 2021.

With the current pandemic introducing an increased reliance on VPN solutions, it’s safe to say that a big number of companies were affected by this problem. Check Point spokesperson claimed that they’re working tirelessly to communicate with customers and to make sure they’re up do date.

As a reminder, to avoid any issues always make sure your apps and operating system are up to date.
